The Australian Boomers men’s national basketball team will be looking to sweep Greece when they play Game Three of The Farewell Series at Geelong Arena tonight.
The Boomers have already clinched the honours in the three game series with an unassailable 2 0 lead over the young Greek side after winning the opening match, 87 60, on Sunday before a crowd of over 9,000 at Hisense Arena and then Game Two, 91 51, on Monday night at the sold out State Basketball Centre.
A victory tonight in Geelong would give the Boomers a 3 0 clean sweep of The Farewell Series and provide an important confidence boost on their road to London.
The ease with which the Boomers have dispatched the Greeks in the first two games has not, according to Head Coach Brett Brown, detracted from the benefit the series has been for the Australian team’s preparations for London.
"When you watch what they run structurally, they’re very well organised they run a very European type system," Brown said after his team’s Game Two win.
"
Young Victorian guard Matthew Dellavedova agreed that The Farewell Series was helping the Boomers prepare for London.
"Yeah we think so, it’s still a game situation and that’s obviously a step up from training, so we think it’s definitely helping," Dellavedova said yesterday.
"This is the first few games that the whole group’s been together, so just getting used to playing together and then from (Monday) night’s game we were a bit fluffy with our turnovers so we’ll try and fix that up (tonight).
